OUR STORY


Strong Maasai Ladies Association (SMALA) is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) founded in 2015 in Kajiado County. We were born out of the need to support Maasai girls who face harmful cultural practices, poverty, early marriage, teenage pregnancy and lack of access to education.Through grassroots initiatives, partnerships and community engagement, we are creating a safe and supportive environment where every girl can learn, grow and realize her full potential.

Empowered, educated, and resilient generation of Maasai women who are free from harmful cultural practices and equipped to lead change in their communities.

OUR MISSION

To advance the rights and well-being of Maasai girls through education, mentorship, protection, and advocacy, while engaging communities to end child marriage, FGM, and all forms of gender-based discrimination.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Promote access to quality education for all Maasai girls.

Prevent teenage pregnancy and child marriage.

Eradicate harmful cultural practices including FGM.

Advance menstrual health and hygiene for all girls.

Foster environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Strengthen community development in health, education and well-being.

Empower communities through mobilization, capacity building and participatory dialogue.

Mary Supeet

Mary Supeet is a passionate Maasai woman and the Founder of SMALA. Her heart for girls and her community drives the vision and leadership behind the organization.
